Being a physically active person (and an Olympian) Being a physically active person (and an Olympian) helps with many things, but unfortunately won’t protect me and those I care about from COVID-19.  That’s why I got my first vaccine yesterday, to do my part in protecting the health of my community and help us get back to a more normal life. ⁣

I have a bit of a sore arm today but a light in my heart for a hopeful future.  I hope you will join me in getting vaccinated against COVID-19 when you get the chance! ⁣

5 out of 7... success or failure? Week one of the 5 out of 7... success or failure?  Week one of the @strava 𝟭% 𝘽𝙚𝙩𝙩𝙚𝙧 𝘾𝙝𝙖𝙡𝙡𝙚𝙣𝙜𝙚 is complete and I only managed to meet my goal (15 min of bedtime yoga) 5 days out of 7. ⁣

The perfectionist in me wanted to get all 7 days but there was one night I just totally forgot 🤦🏼‍♀️ and one other night I was just too tired 😴. Thankfully the challenge built in the human factor which does allow for a slip here and there, which I think is super important for effectively developing a positive habit. ⁣
⁣
All my training activities are uploading to Strava so it appears I hit all seven days to the outside world. However, I decided to make my goal more specific, to truly add in something new to see if I could get 1% better.  So I’m having to be accountable to myself.⁣

The yoga has been different and has actually been really good already.  I can’t wait to see how 4x5 pays off!! ⁣

This week kicks off the ‘1% Better’ Challenge This week kicks off the ‘1% Better’ Challenge on @strava.  The goal is adding a new healthy habit involving physical activity that you commit to doing 𝟭𝟱 min a day, 𝟱 days a week for 𝟰 weeks and uploading it to @strava.⁣

15 min = 1% of your day so by putting in that small chunk of self-improvement time every day, you can work towards being 1% better in a month’s time!! ⁣

As I thought about my challenge for this month I decided to go outside my comfort zone and challenge myself to do an activity I’ve really neglected since retiring, yoga!  My goal for the ‘1% Better’ Challenge is: 𝟷𝟻 𝘮𝘪𝘯 𝘰𝘧 𝘺𝘰𝘨𝘢 𝘢 𝘥𝘢𝘺, 𝘣𝘦𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘦 𝘐 𝘨𝘰 𝘵𝘰 𝘣𝘦𝘥!! I’m really curious to see if I can make it a habit and notice a difference after a month 🤔. ⁣

Stepped out for a sun break mid Zoom-call-marathon Stepped out for a sun break mid Zoom-call-marathon.  Even a few minutes outside works wonders!  I’ve actually started scheduling “outdoor breaks” into my calendar so as to not let hours go by just standing/sitting in the same place!! ⁣

Thinking of up-leveling this concept next month with either a walk circuit around the block I can complete in 5 min breaks or perhaps a gardening activity I can do 5 min at a time.  Anyone have any other good “outdoor break” hacks for me for the workday?⁣

What does life look like if I just get 1% better?⁣

When I was training at the top of my competitive game I had to focus the smallest tweaks to improve, even just 1% could be the difference between gold and off the podium. ⁣
⁣
Now that I’m a mom and the days are busy with all of life’s responsibilities, finding small improvements has taken on a different meaning.  I don’t have unlimited time to train anymore but I still want to keep myself healthy and strong.  Improvement comes in small doses but consistency really builds over time.⁣
⁣
To motivate myself this spring I am excited to join the @strava 1% Better challenge.  My goal is to post 𝘢𝘵 𝘭𝘦𝘢𝘴𝘵 𝟷𝟻 𝘮𝘪𝘯𝘴 a day of physical activity to my account.  If I can keep the streak at least 5 days a week for 4 weeks, I can get 1% better!!⁣

Found some beautiful peace and quiet in the woods Found some beautiful peace and quiet in the woods with the gently falling snow.  It didn’t look like the best weather when we headed out but that just added to the adventure!! Found a perfect little spot to build a snow bench, have a snack and hot chocolate and then explored some more!  Loving that Breck is having fun exploring on skis on and off the track!⁣

Trying to find the right balance can be tricky. S Trying to find the right balance can be tricky.  So I keep putting one foot in front of the other and remind myself “It’s going to be OK”! Slowly the improvement comes and the strength builds.  The best is yet to come! ⁣

It has been a tremendous honor to watch Sophie progress and she is still the smoothest and most graceful sprinter I’ve ever seen. ⁣

Quick to laugh, she always brought such great energy to the team.  I was fortunate to share many sprint finals and even a few podiums with her which are some favorite memories. ⁣

We will miss her on the world stage but selfishly I’m excited to have another one of my ski sisters in the retirement club, where we can continue to share adventures on all types of skis and cheer on the next generation. ⁣
